ACADEMIC SENATE

A special meeting of the Academic Senate was called to= order on October 19, 2006 at 11:05 a.m. by Mike Graves in Room LS-3. The meeting was called to discuss = the proposed compressed schedule.
Of the 47 members of the Senate, 35 members were present: Van Aalst, Pompa, Od= egard, Cross, Dunn, Mazariegos, Ismail, Arno, Gilmore, Graves, Read, Johnston, Coppin, NeVille, Fontiu= s, Fernandez, Fedora, Cordoba, Reynolds, Schaefer, Ryan, = Frisbie, Thatcher, Broussard, Clarke, Cecil, Mauro, Hirt, Corporandy, Hatton, Abbott, Roberts, Ropp, Greene, Weathers.
Guests: = R. Richards, S. Crow.
It was reiter= ated that this meeting was only for discussion, not voting on the schedule. Mike Read gave a presentation on t= he two options available. Discussion followed.
MSP (Clarke, Pompa, unanimous) to vote by ballot. After discussion, Pompa retracted second. Gilmore seconded.
Amendment to = first motion (MSP Hatton, Coppin, unanimous) to have a secret ballot next week on Monday and Tuesday, to first determine if faculty wish to pursue the compre= ssed schedule. If that vote is successful, there will be a later vote to determine whether Option 1 or 2 w= ill be used.
