Eagles take flight in San Jose

Anchored by a school record of 484 yards passing on offense and seven quarterback sacks on defense, College of the Siskiyous football laid down an authoritative 44-9 drubbing of San Jose Saturday.

Quarterback Matt Jackson had a strong game, according to Eagles offensive coordinator Charlie Roche, completing 20 of 30 passes for 361 yards with three touchdown passes. “The key is he threw no interceptions,” Roche said.

Turnovers were an issue for the Eagles in the first half. For the second straight week, COS fumbled the opening kick off giving the ball back to San Jose.

But Saturday the Eagles defense offset three Siskiyou first half fumbles by keeping San Jose out of the end zone.

“They couldn't move the ball on us,” Roche recounts. “Our defense played awesome, allowing only 46 yards rushing and 26 yards passing.”

Three Siskiyou wideouts actually gained more yards than their opponent's combined offense. Darius Davis, Demario Ballard and Rebel Hall each caught passes for over 100 yards with at least one touchdown. Overall, the Eagles gained 747 yards of total offense Saturday, breaking the previous mark of 728 set against Redwoods earlier this year.

COS' stingy defense forced San Jose to settle for three field goals on the day, including long 52-yard and 48-yard bombs.

Rebounding from last week's disappointing loss, the Eagles record is back on the right side of .500 at 3-2 as they head into their bye week to prepare for conference play.

COS' next game is at home versus Laney College, Sat., Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
