Welcome to the class page for Community Relations, ADJ 17. This course will be offered online in the FALL 2008 semester. To register for this online course, please visit the college's registration site at College of the Siskiyous Admissions and Records Office.
This class will begin August 18, 2008 and will end December 18, 2008. After you have registered and the Fall 2008 semester has begun, you will able to access the online instruction site.

Online courses are convenient but can be more difficult and time consuming than traditional classes. Please take a moment and review the
"Online Survival Guide."
For this course you will need the following items:
- A computer and internet access.
- The ability to send and receive e-mail.
- Experience with using the internet with a web browser such as
Internet Explorer®
or Netscape Navigator®.
- Experience with internet search engines such as Google or Yahoo.
- A word processor such as Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, Wordpad, or similar.
- Motivation to set aside time each work to allow you to work on this course.
Learning Goals
Student learning goals include:
- Students will study problem areas in the field of police-community relations.
- Evaluate the needs of special population groups and analyze responses to these groups.
- Analyze effective communication skills and compare techniques.
- Compare and contrast human differences when confronted with communication problems.
- Examine barriers between the criminal justice system and the community.
- Assess conflict resolution skills and critical thinking skills.
- Understand the history and processes of American policing.
- This course meets the C.O.S. ADJ program AA Degree requirements and also UC/CSU transfer requirements.
