This is a survey of Native American Indian cultures, north of Mexico, from prehistoric times until the present. This course will cover all the major culture areas and will include case studies to illustrate the particular cultural lifeways. Topics will include the origins of the first Americans, archaeological evidence of the prehistoric past, subsistence practices, social and political organizations, worldview, economics, the impact of European contact and colonization, and issues affecting contemporary Indian peoples.

Another option is to rent your textbook. One online company that rents textbooks at very reasonable prices ( the last time I checked the Sutton textbook was about $30 and Black Elk Speaks was less than $10 for the semester) is Chegg.com
Black Elk Speaks is also commonly found in libraries (COS and public libraries)
NOTE: If you do purchase your textbooks online make sure you order the correct version. Check the ISBN # and double check that books ordered online will arrive within the first week of class.
