What is SOAR?

SOAR stands for “Siskiyou Orientation, Advising, & Registration”. These group sessions are led by a counselor and advisor. The SOAR sessions are designed to prepare the new-to-COS college student who is pursuing a certificate, AA degree, or transfer, with all the information needed to start COS from “Day One”.

Do I Need to Participate in SOAR?

If you are a student who is pursuing any COS certificate, AA degree, or transfer requirements, and are new to COS, you will want to participate in SOAR.

What Do We Do During a SOAR Session?

1) During the 2-hour SOAR Session, students will:
a) Learn about the NAVIGATOR webpage and establish an account
b) Learn about Campus Resources & Services and have the opportunity to ask the Advisor and Counselor any general questions regarding services, etc.
c) Learn about the Drug/Alcohol policies & procedures for the college and residence halls
d) Learn about the Student Rights and Responsibilities
e) Navigate the COS website and resources and how to find information
f) Discuss Educational Goals (AA, Certificate, Transfer)
g) Begin the creation of their education plan
h) Schedule classes and register during open registration periods
i ) Take the optional Campus Tour, which is an additional 45 minutes to an hour

How Do I Sign Up for SOAR?

After completing steps 1-3 on the "How to Register" page you can call the Welcome Center at 938-5555 to schedule a SOAR session.
