Prepare to take the COMPASS assessment

Reading, Writing, and Math skills are the foundation for your goals. Your COMPASS assessment scores help us determine the Reading, Writing, and Math courses that are appropriate for you. Through COMPASS, you can test out of lower level classes to save yourself time and money. Consequently, do as well as you can on the assessment. The “Prepare to take the COMPASS Assessment” suggestions listed below will help you bush up on the basics before taking the COMPASS.


Prepare to take the COMPASS Reading Assessment

  • Complete the COMPASS Reading Assessment sample questions that are available at http://www.act.org/compass/sample/index.html
  • Enroll in GUID 70 – Basic Skills Improvement, the ½-unit, computer-based, self-paced Reading tutorial at COS.
  • Complete the CSU English Placement Test preparation: http://www.csuenglishsuccess.org/eshome
  • Obtain Reading Review and Reading Improvement books and software at any bookstore.

Prepare to take the COMPASS Writing Assessment

  • Complete the COMPASS Writing Assessment sample questions that are available at: http://www.act.org/compass/sample/index.html
  • Enroll in GUID 70 – Basic Skills Improvement, the ½-unit, computer-based, self-paced Language & Writing tutorial at COS.
