EQUAL OPPORTUNITY

College of the Siskiyous and its staff offer equal opportunities without regard to race, religion, disability, age, national origin, marital status, or gender in employment, services, and programs. Special accommodations are available for any phase of the application or enrollment process for individuals with disabilities.

The Alcohol and Drug Studies program provides students with the academic and practical skills for entry-level employment in alcohol and drug treatment programs, provides training in alcohol and drug abuse counseling for employment with human service organizations, and provides training for human services professionals who wish to expand their knowledge and skills.

The goal of this program is to develop basic competencies in counseling, case management, recordkeeping, treatment planning, pharmacology and physiology of substance above-dependency, and social service systems. The Certificate of Achievement in Alcohol and Drug Studies includes the coursework and supervised field work practicum required by the California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC) for certification.

Disqualification: A student may be denied or postponed placement in ADS 20, the Supervised Practicum, if he or she is not ready for placement in an agency providing the clinical experience. The "readiness" determination will be made jointly by the agency and at least two instructors teaching in the program prior to placement. Criteria will be based on a minimum of completion of at least 50 percent of the coursework, clean and sober for a minimum of two years, evaluation of potential for relapse, emotional maturity, and responsible and professional conduct. Should a relapse occur while participating in the practicum, the student will be disqualified immediately.
