The Business Program prepares the student for a variety of careers in a business environment.

Certificate programs and Associate Degree concentrations are available in Accounting and Office Administration.

Students who plan to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Business can complete the general education and lower division business major requirements at College of the Siskiyous. Lower division major requirements typically include:

Associate Degree Major or Certificate: Accounting (35-39 units)

The Accounting program provides training in many phases of business and prepares a student for employment as an accounting clerk or business trainee.

Accounting clerks are employed in nearly every kind of public and private organizations. They are usually responsible for records of accounts receivable, accounts payable, payrolls, bank deposits, purchase orders, expense reports, or sales commissions.

Associate Degree Major or Certificate: Office Assistant (24-25 units)

This achievement award provides basic entry-level skills to those students entering or currently employed in clerical occupations.

Office Assistants perform numerous clerical duties essential to smooth office operations. They may compile reports; tabulate and post data in record books; prepare and mail bills, receipts, invoices, statements, and checks; answer telephones; and operate computers, calculators, and duplicators.

Associate Degree Major or Certificate: Administrative Assistant (40-41 units)

The Administrative Assistant program provides advanced level training for persons presently employed or seeking employment in high level secretarial and clerical positions.

Administrative Assistants work with executives, taking over some of their routine tasks. These tasks may include clerical duties, including typing; training others to follow procedures; administering contracts; screening and interviewing job applicants; orientation of new employees; planning training programs; representing the department at meetings; or maintaining and procuring office supplies. They may also supervise other staff.

Certificate: E-Business (17 units)

Students completing the E-Business certificate program will learn to set up and run an Electronic Business enterprise. Classes will focus on the design, development, marketing, and maintenance of a web based business. The student will also learn to develop a web page and write a business plan.

Students will demonstrate their proficiency through their performance in the computer lab, case studies, and objective examinations. Program assessment is measured by program completion and periodic program review. The program leads to career opportunities as a Business Web Page Designer and an E-Commerce entrepreneur.
