DSPS Tutoring Services

Specialized tutoring services are available for DSPS students through Disabled Student Programs and Services. If you are a DSPS student and need a tutor or want to become one, contact Denise Mannion in Eddy Hall 1. Non-DSPS students can get tutoring services through the Academic Success Center.

How to Get a Tutor

  • Click Here for an online Tutoring Form (Adobe Acrobat file), OR pick one up in the DSPS Office, Eddy Hall 1.

  • Complete and return the tutoring form to the DSPS office.

  • Check in with Denise Mannion in Eddy Hall #1 in a few days to see if a tutor hads been assigned to you. Also, check the message board in the DSPS Tutorial Center, Eddy Hall #2.

  • The coordinator or your tutor will show you where to sign in and out. Please remember to do so each time that you meet.

  • Keep your tutoring appointments. If you can't attend a session, please phone the Tutorial Center to tell us 938-5297 or 938-5555 ext. 5297.

  • Any and all tutoring hours must be approved by the DSPS Director. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  • All DSPS student tutoring takes place in the Eddy Hall tutoring areas. Any exceptions must be approved by the coordinator.

How to Become a Tutor

  • Click Here for the three online Tutoring Forms (Adobe Acrobat file), OR pick them up in the DSPS Office, Eddy Hall 1.

  • Complete and return all forms in Tutor packet.

    • Be sure to obtain your instructor's signature recommending you to become a tutor.

    • Complete the green (W-4) form, including your signature in all places. See Coordinator for forms.

    • You must posess a Social Security card and a valid photo ID.

    • Be sure your name is shown as it is on your Social Security card.

  • The Tutorial Center will notify you when a student has been assigned to you.

    • Check in with the coordinator once a week.

    • If your schedule and/or availability changes, let the coordinator know as soon as possible.

  • Payment

    • See Denise Mannion before you begin tutoring each new student assigned to you for sign-in/out instructions. It is imperative that your tutoring time is recorded correctly.

    • The Coordinator will give you a pay schedule with the pay period for the entire semester.

    • You may pick up your check from the Cashier in the Student Center on the last working day of each month. See Coordinator for pay schedule. Picture ID required to pick up your check.

  • Complete Tutor Training.

    • See the Tutorial Coordinator for specific details.

  • Please be aware of the following:

    • The amount of time that each of your students may be tutored per week and per subject, will be authorized by the Coordinator.

    • Phone the Center (938-5297 or 938-5555 ext 5297) if you are unable to make an appointment. You may leave a Voice Mail message for the coordinator at any time.

    • We cannot pay you for tutoring any students who have not been approved through us.

    • We cannot pay you for tutoring in areas other than designated tutoring areas. All tutoring must be done in the DSPS Tutorial Center, or the approved designated areas, if authorized.

    • We cannot pay you if your paperwork is missing or incomplete.

    • We cannot pay you if you have not completed Tutor Training.
