Welcome to financial aid

What is financial aid? Financial aid refers to a variety of federal, state, and local programs that help students who might otherwise be unable to attend school.

What are the types of aid? There are four basic types of financial aid: 1) grants, 2) work-study employment, 3) scholarships, and 4) loans. Students must repay educational loans; however, grants, work-study earnings and scholarships need not be repaid.

Why do we provide financial aid?  Although the primary responsibility for meeting college costs rests with the student and his/her family, many families have limited resources and are unable to meet the high cost of post-secondary education. For this reason, financial aid programs have been established to assist students who can document their financial need.

How do I apply? Everyone must complete the FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  The application is free and you will need to provide information on your income (or your parents) for the previous calendar year.  Detailed explanations are on the FAFSA website.

What guidelines do we follow? All information on application forms is kept confidential and is used only by the Financial Aid Office, needs-analysis services and federal, state and local program auditors. Our records are audited annually to assure that only qualified students are awarded financial aid and program guidelines are followed. Individuals who receive financial aid must make "satisfactory academic progress" in order to remain eligible.
